You may also ask friends or family for referrals about the primary care physician they see.

You will want to make sure that the physicians are in your network, and covered by your insurance. No insurance? Then you will need to call and see if the physician offer any discounts or payment plans.

When looking for a family doctor, it is also important to consider all the factors that are important to you. You will need to meet with the physician to determine whether they are a good fit for you.

Primary care physician are trained to specialize in routine screenings, immunizations, illness and check-ups. They are your first point of contact with any health-related questions or concerns that you might have. And if you require more specialized care, treatment, or a diagnosis, then it is your primary care physician who will refer you to see a specialist that they partner with.

Your relationship with your primary care physician fills an important role with your health care. It is crucial to keep your medical history up to date which can help with a treatment plan or prevention of diseases. It is recommended that you see your primary care physician atleast once a year. By performing annual routine screenings, they can detect conditions before they become serious, along with preventing a more serious illnesses with routine vaccinations. In addition to routine health care and prevention, primary care physicians can provide you with referrals to other medical specialists in the event that you require further specialized care. Lastly, a primary care physicians allows for a continuation of care, and as a familiar face that you are comfortable sharing your medical history and concerns with.
